South Africa's top maskandi musician and South African Traditional Music Awards winner Thokozani Langa is itching to perform in Zimbabwe one day.

Langa is an icon when it comes to maskandi traditional music, and he believes he has a thing or two to teach his counterparts in Zimbabwe - as well, of course, as learning from them.

Langa told reporters recently: "I have been longing to perform in Zimbabwe ever since I started singing. Hopefully, music promoters there will hear my wish and give me a chance to showcase my talent to the beloved Zimbabweans.

"Zimbabwe has many gifted musicians who have made it internationally, including Oliver Mtukudzi, Albert Nyathi and Thomas Mapfumo. Those are some of the musicians I would love to share the stage with on their home soil."

He said that Zimbabwean musicians had played a pivotal role globally, as they had stood firm in representing African cultures on other continents.

The SATMA award winner praised Zimbabwean musicians presently dominating South African venues.

"We have rhumba, gospel, maskandi and other types of entertainers who have really done wonderfully in the country," he said.

"What I wish to see in future is for the two countries to have an annual cultural performance."
