Outgoing Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki yesterday told African leaders, including President Mugabe, it was time old leaders - some of whom have clung to power for decades - handed over power to the younger generation.
Kibaki said this at the inauguration ceremony of his successor Uhuru Kenyatta. The ceremony was held at Kasarani Sports complex in Nairobi and was attended by several long-serving African Presidents, among them Mugabe, Uganda's Yoweri Museveni, Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Djibouti's Ismail Omar Guelleh.
15 Heads of State attended the inauguration. In live tweets by Citizen TV Kenya, Kibaki stressed the need to give a chance to the younger generation to lead: "I am happy to pass the torch of leadership to the new generation of leaders," Kibaki said.
He said he was confident the younger generation was capable of leading.
