Tendai Pinduka was forced to make a hasty exit from a funeral in Guruve after being confronted by a group of irate illegal miners who accused him of neglecting their concerns.
The miners, who have reportedly been clashing with Eureka Mine, alleged that Pinduka's syndicate was receiving preferential treatment, while they were bearing the brunt of what they described as the mine's aggressive tactics.
According to sources, tensions flared during the funeral wake as the miners confronted the legislator over what they claimed was his failure to represent their interests, particularly in relation to access to mining and employment opportunities at Eureka Mine.
"It was dramatic and the MP had to be whisked away," a source said.
When contacted for comment, Pinduka confirmed the incident, saying the miners accused him of being responsible for their unemployment.
"They were complaining that I am responsible for their unemployment, citing that I am not representing them to access employment opportunities when they arise at Eureka Mine," he said.
Pinduka added that he chose not to engage in confrontation out of respect for the solemn nature of the gathering.
"Since it was a funeral wake, you should avoid confrontation with them and you can't stop them from displaying their rogue behaviour," he said.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between illegal miners and mining operations in the area, amid growing disputes over access to resources and employment opportunities.
