Window of hope opens for UK-based Warriors

A WINDOW of hope was opened yesterday, for the Warriors' UK-based stars, to travel home for their 2022 World Cup qualifier, against the Black Stars, next week.
The two countries first meet, in Cape Coast, tomorrow before their showdown is switched to the National Sports Stadium, in Harare.
Until yesterday, the expectation was that only AFC Bournemouth rising star, Jordan Zemura, would travel home, for the match against the Black Stars.
Zemura is the only member of the Warriors, who is fully vaccinated and qualified, to come home, and play, without having to endure a strict 10-day hotel quarantine, without training or playing for his club, on his return to England.
Marvelous Nakamba and Tendayi Darikwa, who have received one jab each, had been hoping to get a second jab, by Monday, before they left for Ghana.
However, the duo could not complete the requirements, in time for their trip to West Africa, which effectively meant they were unlikely to come home for the reverse encounter, against the Black Stars.
However, Zimbabwe will be removed from the red list of nations, according to the latest British guidelines, from Monday next week.
This means those coming into Britain from this country, from next week, will not be subjected to the tough 10-day hotel quarantine.
That could give the UK-based Warriors a glimmer of hope, even though, clarification remains to be obtained, from the national team management, whether they will be able to travel, or not.
The players will have to get guidance, from their clubs, too, to see if travelling to Harare, before the change of the country's status, will complicate any issues, in terms of their return to their bases, in the UK.
No comment could be obtained from the Warriors team management last night.
