Four candidates have been shortlisted for public interviews to fill a vacancy on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) following the resignation of one of the commission's members.
The candidates emerged from a field of 52 nominees submitted by members of the public after Parliament called for nominations in accordance with Section 237(1) of the Constitution.
According to a notice issued by the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO), a total of 52 nominations were received, comprising 41 men and 11 women.
Following a review process, the committee shortlisted four candidates for public interviews.
The candidates are Mr Muchineripi Chinyanganya, Mr Sheuneni Kurasha, Dr Lawrence Mhandara and Mr Advent Tatenda Tavenhave.
In a notice, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission confirmed that the interviews will be conducted on June 25, 2026, at the New Parliament Building in Mount Hampden.
"Public interviews will be conducted on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the New Parliament Building in Mount Hampden," the commission said.
The successful candidate will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of a ZEC commissioner.
As Zimbabwe's constitutionally established electoral management body, ZEC is responsible for preparing, conducting and supervising elections and referendums, as well as ensuring that electoral processes are administered in accordance with the Constitution and relevant electoral laws.
The public interviews form part of the constitutional process designed to promote transparency and public participation in the appointment of commissioners to independent commissions.
Following the interviews, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders is expected to recommend qualified candidates for consideration in accordance with the constitutional appointment procedure.
The appointment comes at a time when ZEC continues to play a central role in managing Zimbabwe's electoral processes and maintaining public confidence in the administration of elections.
The outcome of the interviews will determine who joins the commission as it prepares for future electoral and referendum-related responsibilities.
