Zanu-PF Youth league will hold the 7th National elective Youth Conference in May this year to elect its new leadership.

The last youth conference was held in 2014.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Zanu-PF acting deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Tendai Chirau confirmed the latest development saying those eligible to contest should be 35 years and below.

"On Wednesday this week we had our Extraordinary National Executive Council of the Zanu-PF Youth League. The meeting set a foundation for the holding of the elective 7th National Youth Conference. Tentatively, the conference will be held during the first week of May 2022," said Chirau.

Details about the conference, Chirau said will be discussed at a later stage after deliberations with the party leadership.

"The major activities towards the conference will start this month immediately after the by-elections. There will be districts conference, provincial conferences then we go to the ultimate national youth conference. This is going to be an elective youth conference," said Chirau.

Chirau emphasised that only those who are below 35 years of age will be eligible to contest.

"The contested posts start from the deputy secretary down to the other posts. It is strictly 35 years and below," said Chirau.

The Secretary for Youth League will be appointed by the President as the First Secretary of the party.

Some of the issues discussed at the meeting included youth participation in the pending by-elections.

"Yesterday, we had our national executive meeting of the youth league. The preoccupation of the meeting was the involvement of youth in the current by-elections where the youth are taking a central role to ensure that Zanu-PF reclaims and wrestle the seats that have been under the opposition."

"The opposition has left a legacy of destruction in major cities and we re-emphasised our role as the youth to ensure that we continuously participate in this election.

"We are also happy that we have a number of youth candidates across the country, some in Bulawayo, some in Harare among other areas. Some are also standing in the council local elections. This is an indication of the acceptance of youth involvement in politics especially within the revolutionary party," he said.

Meanwhile, Chirau handed over sewing machines donated by the First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa to the House of Cheneso youth project.

"We requested some machines from her to assist the youth in terms of training skills for production

"We have a youth project called House of Cheneso which sales party regalia and also masks and sanitary pads for the women.

"We are very happy with the gesture from the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa. Today I am handing over the sewing machines to the House of Cheneso staff for the production of party regalia," said Chirau.
