The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) has terminated the membership of musician Gift Amuli following a disciplinary process conducted by the organisation.
In a statement released by the association, ZIMURA confirmed that the decision was reached after a review carried out in accordance with its constitution, membership regulations and internal disciplinary procedures.
The organisation said all relevant processes were followed before the final determination was made.
"ZIMURA has officially terminated the membership of Gift Amuli following a disciplinary review conducted by the organisation," the association said.
While confirming the termination, ZIMURA did not disclose the specific reasons that led to the decision, leaving questions among industry stakeholders and supporters about the circumstances surrounding the matter.
The association indicated that further details may be provided in a more comprehensive statement expected to be released in due course.
"At this stage, ZIMURA has not disclosed the specific reasons that led to the termination," the organisation said.
"The association emphasised that all disciplinary procedures were followed before the final determination was made."
The development has generated interest within Zimbabwe's music industry, where ZIMURA plays a central role in the administration and protection of intellectual property rights for musicians, composers and other rights holders.
As Zimbabwe's recognised collective management organisation, ZIMURA is responsible for licensing the use of copyrighted music, collecting royalties and distributing earnings to its members.
Membership in the organisation provides artists with access to royalty collection mechanisms and copyright protection services, making any disciplinary action or termination a matter of significance within the creative sector.
Industry observers say the lack of detailed information has fuelled speculation about the reasons behind the decision, although ZIMURA has urged stakeholders to await its full statement before drawing conclusions.
The association reiterated that the disciplinary process was conducted in line with established governance procedures and organisational regulations.
The termination of Amuli's membership is expected to have implications for his relationship with the association, particularly regarding the administration of music rights and royalty-related matters.
However, until further information is released, the full impact of the decision remains unclear.
Supporters of both ZIMURA and Amuli are expected to closely monitor developments as the association prepares to provide additional details about the disciplinary proceedings and the factors that led to the termination.
The case is likely to attract continued attention within Zimbabwe's arts and entertainment sector, where issues of governance, artists' rights and organisational accountability remain subjects of ongoing discussion.
