Two men were recently arrested in connection with the theft of goats in Mbembesi in Matabeleland North.
The suspects are identified as Kenneth Chirwa (42) and Gift Sibanda (32) of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo.
Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube told the media that police who were on routine patrol in a marked police vehicle saw a Toyota Hiace vehicle overloaded.
"They signalled the driver to stop but he did not comply. Instead he sped away," said Ncube.
"Three police vehicles followed it in pursuit and managed to intercept the fleeing car at the corner 1st Avenue and Fort Street."
The car was driven by Chirwa and inside the car were two passengers named Gift Sibanda and Colen Nyathi.
The vehicle was escorted to Bulawayo Central Traffic.
He said Nyathi took the chance to disembark from the vehicle under the pretext that he was going to look for money to pay a fine, instead he fled from the police station.
"Police searched the motor vehicle and discovered that it was ferrying a double bed, two bolt cutters, two big solar panels and three slaughtered goats," he said.
Chirwa and Sibanda then claimed that the goats and goods on board belonged to Nyathi and confessed that the goats had been taken from Mbembesi Area.
He said police made an effort to reach Nyathi on his mobile phone but his phone had already been switched off and they are appealing for public assistance to arrest Nyathi.
