PROMINENT attorney Advocate Thabani Mpofu, popularly known as the legal representative of Nelson Chamisa, involved in a wrangle with Zimbabwean-Croat Joseph Crnkovic, a former finance officer for Chegutu-based mining company Dallaglio Investments, over allegations that he received a bribe to conceal racism allegations levelled against the company and its chief executive Michael Fowler, says he is facing "extortionate means" from his accuser.
"I want to bring to your attention an unfolding attempt by Mr. Joseph Crnkovic to interfere with my discharge of function as an advocate. The attempt is in my view extortionate and I have for that reason taken a very serious view of it," Mpofu says.
Mpofu said he was instead paid - not bribed, by Dallagio for the services he rendered in heading the inquiry that looked into the human rights abuse allegations levelled against Crnkovic and Fowler.
"It is apparent that I acquitted the complainant on the allegations he was facing. I stand by his acquittal," Mpofu wrote.
Mpofu also said he has not been responsible for the dismissal of Crnkovic who was sacked after the inquiry since he exonerated him during the hearings, which he said can be confirmed by Dallagio.
Crnkovic said it was his belief that there was clear corruption between Hossack and Mpofu.
The case was allocated case number RRB003547 at Zacc and the investigating officer, Takunda Mulambo, is reportedly seized with the matter.
