DANNY Mashinkila-Khumalo, father to former Warriors great Willard, who died at a Bulawayo hospital on Tuesday, will be laid to rest at West Park Cemetery on Saturday morning.

He was 70.

Speaking on behalf of the family last night, Willard said his dad had abdominal pains that led him to having a running tummy and vomiting at the weekend.

He went to United Bulawayo Hospitals on Tuesday for a routine check up as he suffered from diabetes and hypertension.

"Unfortunately he passed on sadly a day after his 70th birthday. We are devastated as a family to lose our father," said Willard.

Danny Jnr said his father worked for decades for the National Railways of Zimbabwe where he rose to the position of foreman. He retired six years ago.

In his youth he played for the famed Northern Rhodesia (All Blacks), a team whose best known star is John Walker Chipukula, a legendary goalkeeper whose exploits are still talked about.

"He played for Northern Rhodesia (All Blacks).  He was a midfielder," said Willard.

His body lay in state at his Kennilworth home. A church service will be held at Church of Christ in North End (8.30PM) before burial at West Park.

He leaves behind a wife, children Willard, Brian, Jackie, Saffie, Doreen, Anita and Danny (Jnr).
