THE World Health Organisation (WHO) urges people to make use of African medicine at a time when the general populace has resorted to using Modern medicine.

A number of companies have resorted to manufacturing African medicine using natural herbs in a bid to curb viruses such as the deadly HIV virus.

Musimboti Traditional Science and Technology Institute, one of the companies which has been on the verge of preventing a number of diseases using the traditional medicine has opened a new branch which is situated along 8th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way.

The newly opened shop is the fourth one to be opened in the country. In Bulawayo there are three shops and the other shop is in Harare.

Musimboti which has a factory here in Bulawayo also has two farms where different kinds of herbs are grown.

The name Musimboti means a beam which supports the roof of the hut when thatching. The name shows the importance of the traditional medicine in people's lives.

Musimboti is a registered company under the Traditional Medical Practitioners Act. The company also makes food supplements and medicine using traditional herbs.

Musimboti also works in partnership with the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Council (TMPC) hence those who are in the business of producing and selling traditional medicine can access registration forms from the company.

Musimboti produces pills, cough mixture, eye drops, tea leaves, ointments and other medications which help the body to keep fit. The traditional medicines are reportedly said not to have side effects.
