Beitbridge terminates land developer housing deal

The Municipality of Beitbridge has terminated its contract with Kingdom Lifestyle over the development of the Matibe suburb, also known as Eastlea, citing delays in servicing the low-density housing scheme.
In a recent public notice, Notice 38/2026, the local authority informed beneficiaries that it had cancelled its agreement with Kingdom Lifestyle with immediate effect after the developer failed to deliver services within the agreed timelines.
"Following this contract termination, all beneficiaries are advised that any outstanding or ongoing payments for Eastlea stands must be made directly to the Beitbridge Municipality," the notice said.
The municipality warned beneficiaries against making any further payments to Kingdom Lifestyle, saying it would not accept liability for funds paid to the developer after the termination notice.
Residents who had purchased stands have been urged to visit the Municipal Finance Offices with proof of identity and previous payment receipts to reconcile their accounts and update their records.
The termination comes amid growing concern over delays in the servicing of residential stands across Beitbridge.
Several years ago, the local authority entered into partnerships with land developers to service more than 3,000 housing stands in phases as part of efforts to address the border town's housing backlog.
The stands were reportedly sold to residents for between US$5,500 and US$6,500 by various developers over the past seven years.
However, council officials say some developers have yet to fulfil their obligations to provide essential infrastructure, including sewer and water reticulation, leaving hundreds of beneficiaries with housing stands that remain inadequately serviced despite payments having been made.
The municipality said it remained committed to ensuring that residents receive properly serviced stands and that future payments would be channelled through council to improve accountability and accelerate service delivery.
