Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said Zimbabweans should drink responsible as the nation cannot afford to have citizens who are ever drunk.
He was speaking at the official opening of a $1m Wholesale Centre Liquor Hub, a liquor store in Bulawayo today.
The Wholesale Centre Liquor Hub is owned by Bulawayo business mogul Raj Modi and is located at No 58 Fife Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues.
Modi opened the store in mid-February this year after he quit Choppies Zimbabwe.
"I want to encourage Wholesale Centre Liquor Hub and all retailers in Zimbabwe to source and stock locally-produced goods wherever possible. Similarly, I believe that on their part local producers should endeavour to comply with quality and delivery requirement of retailers since trade is a mutually beneficial process."
Then he spoke of drunkards.
"While I thank you for your attention and wish you a pleasant shopping experience, I caution you on drinking. A drinking national does not work normal hours. I wish that as a nation, we continue to divide our work between leisure and actual work," he added.
The VP later donated food items to prisoners at Bulawayo Remand Prison and toured the Heath Streak Academy.
