43 year old illegal gold panner, Garikayi Zvavada who petrol bombed his girlfriend and her cousin in Ascot, Gweru over the weekend is now facing murder charges following the death of the two victims.

The suspect accompanied by heavily armed police was taken for an inspection in loco where business temporarily came to a standstill as residents jostled to a catch a glimpse of the accused.

There was pandemonium in Ascot as heavily armed police arrived in Fusire Road with the murder suspect for indications at the crime scene.

People of all age groups jostled to get a glimpse of the murder suspect.

It is said the accused Zvavada in the company of a pirate taxi driver Itai Manyoka petrol bombed his girlfriend Nancy Sibanda whom he suspected to be with another man in the house although the girl was in the company of her cousin Cynthia Hlabangani.

Following his accusation, it is said Zvavada hatched a plan to kill Sibanda and proceeded to buy nine litres of petrol before returning to the house.

Upon his return he is said to have knocked on the deceased window demanding that she lets him in but the now deceased Nancy and her cousin refused.

The accused then broke the window and poured petrol into the room and set it on fire.

The now deceased failed to get out and were later rescued by Zenzo Zangirayi and other neighbours.

Residents expressed shock at the tragedy and described the late Nancy as a jovial and friendly lady who did not deserve to die in such a violent manner.

The incident happened last Friday the second of December and the two Nancy and Cynthia were rushed to Gweru Hospital before later being transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.

Two days later Cynthia succumbed to the burns while Nancy died this Tuesday (yesterday).

The two accused persons are in police custody and will appear in court soon.
