Compound villagers in Gokwe under Chief Njelele are crying foul over con-men, Tsikamutandas, who are allegedly extorting their livestock and household materials on witchcraft allegations.
Apparently this has been going on for more than three months now.
Villagers who spoke to Bulawayo24.com in Gokwe expressed disappointment over the extortion habit and blamed their village heads who are forcing them to entertain the Tsikamutanda.
"We are in serious trouble with Tsikamutanda who are swindling our livestock and property on witchcraft allegations.
"Two village heads only known as Campaund and Machona threatened and harassed people to submit to Tsikamutanda or risk being chucked out of the village," explained a villager.
Despite the call by the Home Affairs Ministry to arrest Tsikamundas around Zimbabwe ,the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Gokwe is reported to have told the villagers that it was not within their power to arrest the alleged conmen.
However, efforts to contact them hit the brick wall, as Midlands's police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende's mobile number was unavailable.
Contacted for comment village head Machona could neither confirm nor deny harassing villagers since he said they were just cleansing the village as per tradition.
"It is mandatory that the village is witchcraft free so this is as per our tradition," he said before hanging up
