Illegal gold miner dies of carbon monoxide

An illegal gold miner at Mazowe, Masasa mountains reportedly inhaled carbon monoxide and died yesterday during a shaft gold panning, Bulawayo24.com has learnt.
Reliable sources allege a miner only identified by his nickname Raspombi did not exercise safety precautions and dashed into a shaft soon a blast where he inhaled the carbon monoxide that subsequently killed him.
"We have just received the sad news that Raspombi Madimba has been gassed at a Masasa mountain gold shaft belonging to illegal panners after they had blasted the end underground at which they were meant to take gold ore with they were meant to gold ore with high values recorded to be at 5 grammes per pan dish," said the source.
"Raspombi hurriedly went underground minutes after they had blasted and inhaled the dangerous gas, unfortunately his colleagues were slow to react and he died underground."
Menwhile, weekly death cases of illegal miners in Mazowe are gradually increasing with calls for government intervention to formalise small scale mining.
