Zimbabwe beat Botswana 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in a Cosafa Cup quarter-final match at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Defending champions, Zimbabwe are through to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup after beating Botswana 3-1 on penalties in a quarter-final clash that ended in South Africa this evening.
Botswana and Zimbabwe drew 1-1, and a penalty shootout followed following another entertaining half.
Chigova saved three Botswana spot kicks and Jameson Mukombwe, Abbas Amidu and Khama Billiat scored the three penalties that Zimbabwe took.
Zimbabwe went on to secure a 3-1 win on penalties after Chigova had denied Orebonye, Sosome and Kgamanyane.
The victory saw Zimbabwe book their place in the semi-finals, while Botswana will play in the plate semi-finals.
Billiat had set up Evans Rusike in the 39th minute for the match's opening goal but Botswana grabbed a 61st minute equaliser, and the match had to be decided on penalties.
Sunday Marimo Chidzambwa, the Zimbabwe head coach, named a strong starting line-up as the defending champions, who had a first round bye, played their first game in the tournament.
In another quarter-final match played this afternoon, Madagascar upset the hosts, South Africa 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 0-0 in regulation time.
Zimbabwe will now take on Lesotho in the semi-final, while Zambia will clash with Madagascar.
Both of those matches will be played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
