JEHOVAH'S Witnesses will launch their three-day annual convention series today under the theme "Be Courageous!"
The event, which is expected to be attended by over 2500 congregants at the Harare Assembly Hall, is the first of a three-day programme to be held in the capital.
Thousands of Witnesses will throng the venue each weekend for Bible-based programmes through to October 12 to14.
Spokesperson for the organisation, John Hunguka, yesterday said this year's theme focussing on courage was the third in the series of vital qualities that have been highlighted since 2016 for Christians to develop stability. He said the conventions' series in 2016 and 2017 focused on loyalty and endurance respectively. The launch of the 2018 convention series this year was preceded by a campaign to invite the public to attend the programme free of charge.
The three-day programme consists of 54 presentations that will include talks, audio dramas, interviews, and short videos.
In addition, a feature film entitled The Story of Jonah – A lesson in Courage and Mercy will be shown on the final day of the convention programme on Sunday.
"Each day, the morning and afternoon sessions will be introduced by music videos prepared specifically for the convention," Hunguka said.
He said this year the local Witnesses branch has organised 59 conventions in 10 languages - Shona, Ndebele, English, Zimbabwe Sign Language, Chitonga, Venda, Chichewa, Swahili, Chinese and French.
Worldwide, there are over 8 million Witnesses while in Zimbabwe there are more than 48 800 organised in 1 350 congregations.
Attendance is free.
