MDC supporter bashed for 'insulting' Mnangagwa

A bid to save ZANU PF presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa from insults landed a ZANU PF activist in trouble after he was convicted of assaulting an MDC supporter in Mvurwi yesterday.

Godfrey Museba (46) of  Plot 47 Gem farm in Mvurwi was convicted by Guruve resident magistrate Mr Shingirai Mutiro after he assaulted MDC supporter Saida Kangombe for not being patriotic to ZANU PF leader Mnangagwa.

According to court papers on the 22 June 2018 at around 1000hrs at Gem farm Compound, Mvurwi, Kangombe was on his way to his party meeting where he met Museba who confronted him on his opposition links other than supporting Mnangagwa.

The complaint told the Museba that it was his constitutional right to support an opposition party.

Quizzed on why he assaulted the complaint by the magistrate Museba said he insulted the president hence he became cheeky and assaulted him using open hands.

The complainant sustained bruises on the lower part of the left leg and was medically examined , the medical report was produced in court as evidence.

Museba was slapped with 12 months community service sentence, three of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour the remaining nine (315hours) will be effective and he will be performing it at Early Worm primary school.

The sentence is sending a strong warning to potential perpetrators of violence in Guruve district ahead of the looming elections which are being anticipated to be free and fair.
