A Ward 2 Councillor is allegedly to have assured illegal settlers situated along Gwanda Road in Bulawayo that if they vote for him he will fix they legal status and make sure they become legal settlers.
The Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association on Wednesday visited Kesington area where the settlers are located and they gave a report on their Twitter account:
This morning we went to visit the displaced people situated along Gwanda road to understand the reasons that have lead to them constructing shacks on the side of the highway to Beitbridge
On the 23rd of January 2019, they were evicted from the McDonald Bricks lands which they had been staying in for more than 5 years. They had built a community which now had a village head
They say they had occupied the land illegally but the Councillor for Ward 2 urged them to vote for him in the previously held elections and he will "fix" things for them so that they can legally occupy the land. After they voted him in, they have not heard from him
They say they do not want to be there but they do not have land where they can relocate to and rebuild their lives and they are asking for whoever can assist them to relocate to hear their voices.
They further expressed that they feel they have even affected the health of the residents around the area they occupy due to lack of proper sanitation which may lead to swarms of flies in people's homes.
Radar Properties who are the owners of the piece of land recently got a ruling from the magistrate who said, " An order is hereby made against all the respondents cited and all claiming through them including those whose names could not be verified by the Applicant that they forthwith vacate Applicant's immovable property immediately upon service of this order by the messenger of court.
"Failing which the messenger of court with the assistance of members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police are ordered to assist the messenger of court accordingly and are hereby authorized to forcibly eject the respondents and all claiming through them."
