Former Footballers and Coaches Association national chairman Balon Chiseko says the organisation is in discussions with Zimnat Life Assurance to secure affordable insurance packages for its members, including funeral cover and medical aid at reduced premiums.
Chiseko said the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve the welfare of retired footballers, many of whom face financial challenges after leaving the game due to the absence of structured retirement support systems.
"The support is positive, and we believe that in due course we will be announcing our partnership," he said.
The association represents former players and coaches who competed at the highest level, including those who turned out for the Warriors and the Mighty Warriors.
In addition to the insurance initiative, Chiseko revealed that the association has also engaged Settlers4ED in efforts to secure affordable housing solutions for its members.
"I'm proud to announce that our national executive is in talks with responsible authorities at Zimnat Life Assurance so that our members are eligible to secure a policy that will cover medical and funeral expenses," he said.
"In due course we will be announcing that with our partnership with Settlers4ED, we have managed to obtain an offer for low-cost residential stands for our members.
"We have an agreement that our members can now pay the initial deposit and start building," said Chiseko.
The programme is expected to complement ongoing welfare interventions aimed at improving living conditions for retired footballers.
Chiseko noted that many former players continue to struggle economically after retirement, prompting renewed calls for sustainable welfare structures within the sport.
The Former Footballers and Coaches Association recently made a statement backing Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 and expressing support for Vision 2030 under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
