Residents of Matapi flats in Mbare have expressed their profound gratitude to government and the City of Harare for the work being done in renovating the flats and making the place habitable.
At the mention of Matapi, Matererini, Magaba and Chishawasha flats in Mbare what comes to mind is a dirty place, but that is now a thing of the past.
Located in one of Harare's oldest suburbs, the place had become an eyesore.
Following President Emmerson Mnangagwa's tour last year after Matapi Block 4 was gutted by fire, an investor FGC approached government and partnered the City of Harare to renovate the flats.
"We want to transform this place and after we are done it will be a completely new place which the residents will be proud of, we will also work on the ablution facilities," said Mr Etherton of FCG.
The flats have been painted outside as well as the inside corridors, and window panes are being replaced.
After assessing the progress, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Honourable Jennifer Mhlanga praised the work being done.
"Government is really impressed by the work being done here, the place has totally transformed as you can see," said Mhlanga.
Some residents who spoke to ZBC News appreciated the work being done pledging to maintain the place in a hygienic manner.
"Tinotenda zvikuru, musha wedu wanaka and tichauchengetedza, hopefully zvirwere zvichaitawo zvishoma. (We are very grateful, our home is now habitable and we will maintain it, we hope there will be a reduction in the spread of diseases),," said one of the residents.
The residents are happy and the partners say after they are done Mbare will be completely transformed.
