FORMER Zimbabwe Power Company chairperson Stanley Kazhanje, who is accused of concealing his business interests in Intratrek Zimbabwe, yesterday revealed in court that he was not the only engineer paid during the same period for consultancy work.

In his defence, Kazhanje told magistrate Hosea Mujaya that he offered consultancy work to Intratrek Zimbabwe before he was appointed ZPC board chair.

He told the court that the $10 000 deposited into his bank account in 2016 was for the consultancy work carried out in 2014 by his company, Terminal Engineering, and that the company's banker Kingdom Bank had liquidated, hence the use of his personal account.

Asked to explain why the money was paid in 2016, Kazhanje said it was common practice in the nature of their work.

Explaining details on Intratrek Zimbabwe CBZ bank statements presented in court, Kazhanje said he was not the only engineer paid for consultancy by Intratrek on the same day, but also one engineer Oliver Magwenzi of Techno Partners, who received $6 000.

Kazhanje said former Energy deputy minister Engineer Munacho Mutezo invited him to submit his curriculum vitae since he knew his experience in engineering and he was vetted by the Office of the President, the Central Intelligence Organisation and the ministry.

He said he declared his interests to all the departments that vetted him and they ruled that there was no conflict of interest.

Kazhanje said during his tenure, he worked with four ministers - Simon Khaya Moyo, Dzikamai Mavhaire, Samuel Undenge and Joram Gumbo, who all wrote commendation letters.

He said his term was very peaceful up to June 11, 2018 when the ministry abolished the post after the merger of the Zesa board and their tenure was extended by six months.

Intratrek Zimbabwe was not the only company contracted by ZPC during that period, he added, but there were three companies which were doing work in Munyati, Kwekwe and Insukamini in Gweru.
