Bulawayo Council to decongest CBD
07 Jul 2019 at 21:33hrs | Views
THE Bulawayo City Council is working on plans to limit informal trading in the central business district to reduce congestion, the mayor Solomon Mguni has said.
In a state of the city service delivery address last week, Mguni said there was need to establish markets in neighbourhoods to reduce crowding in the CBD.
"It is noted that currently wholesale fruits and vegetables markets are mainly located in the central business district, thereby attracting hordes of vendors in the city every morning," he said.
"To decentralise such activities, there is need to establish markets in selected neighbourhoods.
"This will improve access to the goods by traders, remove transport costs and reduce traffic congestion on our roads."
A market has already been set up in Old Pumula and another one is planned for Magwegwe North.
