Human rights activists have said the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission has nothing to offer interms of the issues of organised violence in the country.

They made the remarks during the launch of the Research and Advocacy Unit (RAU) report titled Zimbabwe's History of Organised Violence and Torture recently.

Rashid Mahiya, the Chairperson of Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Speaking about the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC), Mahiya said it has nothing to offer at the moment as since its inception it has done nothing to address organised violence and torture of the past and present.

"NPRC is of no use at the moment, this is my personal opinion. They are not doing anything to address these challenges," Mahiya said.

Mahiya said NPRC should have an opportunity to have sight of the RAU report so as to understand the issues of organised violence and torture.

Another human rights defender Frances Lovemore said the wound of Gukurahundi has affected the nation's development.

She said the past and present organised violence has seriously affected the nation's development and is stifling the nation from attaining political maturity.

RAU report deals with the organised violence and torture that took place in the southern half of Zimbabwe between 1980 and 1987 which became known as "Gukurahundi".

The report states Recent analysis shows clearly that few governments were unaware about what was happening between 1982 and 1987.

"There were signs before 1982 that the uneasy alliance between Zanu PF and PF Zapu might well fall apart into wider conflict," reads part of the report which borrows much of its analysis on the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace report titled Breaking the Silence," it reads.
