SPEAKER of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda last week ejected Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MPs Chalton Hwende and Tendai Biti from the House after they demanded answers on the controversial Pomona waste management deal.
This was after Local Government deputy minister Marian Chombo said the matter was sub judice, and could not be debated until the High Court issued a ruling on its legality.
Mudenda ruled there would no longer be any other discussions around the matter as tempers flared with Biti and Hwende leading the charge demanding answers.
"The chair cannot allow debate and clarification because the matter is sub judice, and before the courts,"Mudenda said. Opposition Harare North MP Allan Markham filed an application at the High Court last month seeking a cancellation of the deal.
The matter is yet to be heard in court.
Mudenda's ruling suspending debate on the waste management project was not welcomed by the CCC legislators as they demanded that their submissions be noted.
