Chevrons embarassed in Namibia

The Zimbabwe national cricket team began their five-match T-20 series in Windhoek with a defeat against the host, Namibia. The tourists had an uncharacteristically tough day with the bat, scoring just 121 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
The Chevrons, regrouping for the first time since losing the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Bulawayo, brought a strong squad for the five-match series. However, the local team's uncharacteristic batting struggles saw them starting the match on the backfoot.
Nick Welch, who earned a call-up to the senior national team due to his domestic form, was dismissed for a golden duck on the first ball of the match. Captain Craig Ervine also fell early, scoring a duck off just six balls.
Sikandar Raza tried to salvage the situation with 39 runs, while Luke Jongwe and Wessly Madhevere contributed 22 runs each. Zimbabwe's total was 121 for 9 in their allotted overs, with several players failing to reach double figures.
Namibia, on the other hand, batted sensibly, easily chasing down Zimbabwe's total in 13.4 overs with just three wickets lost, reaching 122 for 3. Nikolaas Davin played a key role, scoring 80 runs off 44 balls.
Zimbabwe's Richard Ngarava took two wickets, and Luke Jongwe took one, but they failed to put enough pressure on the hosts.
The two teams will face each other again today for the second match as they prepare for the International Cricket Council T-20 World Cup qualifiers in Namibia next month.
