During the August 23 and 24 harmonized elections, a village head from Matebeleland South province assaulted an election officer when he couldn't locate his name on the voters' roll.
Bridi Moyo (82), a village head in Madlambudzi under Chief Masendu, struck Lamison Ncube of the same village with a knobkerrie, accusing him of denying him the right to vote.
Moyo appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on Friday, facing an assault charge.
The court was told that on August 23, Moyo confronted the complainant, accusing him of removing his name from the voters' roll. An argument ensued, and he struck the election officer with a knobkerrie on the knees.
The village head pleaded guilty and received a wholly suspended 12-month sentence, provided he avoids committing a similar offense in the next five years.
