A resident of Mvurwi has been found not guilty of charges related to the destruction of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's election campaign posters prior to the August elections.
Tendai Dandajena, a 43-year-old supporter of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was arrested on July 9 in Concession while en route to a campaign rally featuring party leader Nelson Chamisa.
Dandajena was accused of unlawfully removing and tearing Mnangagwa's campaign posters, which were affixed to a wooden utility electricity pole in Concession, thereby violating section 152(1) of the Electoral Act.
During the trial held at the Bindura magistrates court, one torn poster was presented as evidence. However, at the conclusion of the prosecution's case, Dandajena was acquitted. His lawyer, Ernest Jena from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, argued that his client had been a victim of political violence and applied for his discharge.
