South Africa-based actor Chrispen Nyathi has launched an initiative to support young, talented actors from Zimbabwe who aspire to join Mzansi's television and film industry.
Nyathi, known for his role as Pastor Charleston Ncube in the Mzansi Magic drama "DiepCity," earned the Viewer's Choice Award for Best Actor at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards for his outstanding performance.
Impressed by the potential of emerging local actors, Nyathi aims to enhance their career opportunities. In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, he revealed his efforts to facilitate their travel to South Africa.
"Currently, I am working tirelessly with my sponsor to secure the necessary funds for the actors to travel from Zimbabwe to South Africa. I believe by the end of this year, I will have assisted at least 20 people," said Nyathi.
He has been monitoring young talent and is open to recommendations, emphasizing that his efforts are purely philanthropic.
"I do not expect any monetary gain from this gesture. Consider this part of my philanthropic work. I am simply assisting my fellow countrymen. I believe some of the guys have the potential to go far with the right support," he added.
The two-time Royalty Soapie Award winner encouraged actors to aim high, drawing from his own experience.
"I was groomed in Zimbabwe and want to help others grow too. My dream is to see many Zimbabwean actors showcasing their talents on grand stages like Hollywood or even Bollywood. Currently, several Zimbabwean actors are excelling in the South African film industry."
Nyathi was honored last year as an Outstanding Ambassador at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards.
