Despite the ZIFA Player Status Committee clearing Obriel Chirinda to play for Premier Soccer League champions Ngezi Platinum Stars, the striker's troubles are far from over. Harare giants Dynamos, who failed in their bid to have Chirinda declared their player, are now contesting the ZIFA decision.
Dynamos claim the ZIFA Player Status Committee unfairly adjudicated the matter. Club executive chairman Moses Maunganidze asserts that Dynamos were not given the opportunity to appear before the committee, which goes against the principles of natural justice. Maunganidze mentioned that Dynamos expected a round table meeting to present their evidence.
On Monday, the Player Status Committee ruled that Ngezi Platinum's acquisition of the former Bulawayo Chiefs striker was legitimate and granted him permission to resume playing. The committee also instructed the PSL to release Chirinda's license, which had been withheld due to the dispute.
Chirinda has been embroiled in a conflict where both Ngezi and Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos claimed to have signed him during the off-season transfer window. As a result, Chirinda has been inactive for 14 games. The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe intervened, prompting ZIFA to deliberate on the dispute.
