The Forbes Border Post in Mutare, Manicaland province, is poised to potentially surpass Beitbridge Border Post in handling commercial traffic in the coming years, according to Batsirai Chadzingwa, the Customs and Excise commissioner. Currently, Forbes handles approximately 1,000 trucks daily, nearly matching the traffic at Beitbridge.
Chadzingwa highlighted Forbes' strategic advantage due to its proximity to the sea from Harare and the resilience of Beira Port, which can quickly resume operations after natural disasters. He cited the port's rapid recovery after a tsunami, becoming operational within a week, as a significant confidence booster for businesses.
Chadzingwa shared these insights during a three-day tax education workshop for journalists from Zimbabwe's southern region, held in Masvingo. The workshop, attended by about 30 journalists from various regions, was facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
