US Embassy wants Zimbabweans to take part in US-funded programme
2 hrs ago | Views
The United States (US) Embassy has invited organisations and individuals across Zimbabwe to apply for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) programme, designed to foster entrepreneurship skills among women in the country. This initiative targets non-profit organisations, civil society groups, incubators, tech hubs, and alumni organisations of US-funded exchange programmes.
In a statement released this week, the embassy called on the targeted groups to develop and implement entrepreneurial programmes aimed at enhancing women's capabilities and resources to actively engage in the private sector. The AWE programme will offer both in-person and virtual sessions led by established entrepreneurs from Zimbabwe and the United States, alumni of US exchange programmes, and other experts across various industries.
"Participants will engage in interactive learning through the Dream Builder course, alongside content from the Najafi 100 Million Learners Global Initiative, focusing on critical topics in entrepreneurship and innovation," the embassy said in the statement. The programme's objective is to boost understanding of essential business areas such as business planning, financial forecasting, marketing, and scaling operations.
The embassy noted that proposals should include a strong American component, with US-based business experts contributing as guest teachers or coaches. The programme may take place across multiple locations and cater to cohorts of up to 30 participants per session. Proposals that integrate seed funding, networking events, pitch competitions, site visits, or other innovative elements will have an edge.
The programme also aims to create a supportive network for female entrepreneurs through peer-to-peer mentorship, helping participants grow their businesses, build local partnerships, and sustain long-term business growth. This initiative seeks to empower women entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in today's competitive market.
The US Embassy emphasized the importance of a detailed recruitment strategy and clear involvement from the embassy in the proposed activities. It also highlighted the need for sustainability, business partnerships, or cost-sharing in the proposals, which would increase their competitiveness.
"Proposals incorporating strong American components in their design will be prioritized. This includes business partnerships and exchanges that promote democratic values, such as freedom of speech and civic participation," the embassy added.
The AWE programme represents a significant opportunity for women entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe to expand their business acumen and build sustainable enterprises, while also fostering international collaboration. Proposals are encouraged to focus on long-term impacts and to include follow-up activities with AWE alumni to evaluate the programme's success.
Organisations and individuals interested in participating in this exciting opportunity are encouraged to submit their proposals to the US Embassy, as this initiative continues to create lasting opportunities for women's economic empowerment in Zimbabwe.
