The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has officially opened nominations for its Executive Committee elections, slated to culminate in an Elective Ordinary Congress on January 25, 2025.
In a statement released Friday, ZIFA confirmed that the elections will be conducted in line with the 2024 ZIFA Statutes, Electoral Code, and the approved Elections Roadmap. Aspiring candidates can access nomination forms either by downloading them from the ZIFA website or collecting them directly from ZIFA's Harare offices.
"No fees are required for any of the positions," ZIFA emphasized, urging stakeholders interested in running for office to contact the Electoral Committee via elections@zifafootball.org.zw for more information.
Candidates Begin Campaigning
With the election date drawing closer, several hopefuls have already started engaging stakeholders in a bid to secure support.
Former Norton legislator and businessman Temba Mliswa recently extended an invitation for an all-expenses-paid trip to ZIFA regional chairpersons—key members of the electoral college eligible to vote. The invitation includes a trip to Polokwane, South Africa, to watch Zimbabwe's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Kenya on November 15.
Mliswa described the initiative as a step towards fostering unity within the football fraternity.
Meanwhile, other prominent figures have expressed interest in contesting for the ZIFA presidency. These include Walter Magaya, a well-known cleric and businessman; Richard Mazodze, an experienced football administrator; Marshal Gore, a UK-based football consultant; and Philemon Machana, a ZIFA board member.
Road to Reform
The elections come at a critical juncture for Zimbabwean football, which has faced challenges in governance, development, and international representation. The next ZIFA leadership will be tasked with implementing reforms to restore credibility and foster growth in the sport.
The nomination window and campaign period are expected to set the tone for a competitive and decisive election as stakeholders rally to shape the future of Zimbabwean football.
