Zimbabwe police arrest 3 robbery suspects in dramatic shootout in Bulawayo

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to a string of armed robberies targeting motor vehicles in Bulawayo and Gwanda between July and November 20, 2024.

The suspects, Moketsi Ndlovu (18), Respect Khumalo (22), and Onias Tembo (19), were apprehended on November 25 following a shootout with a police crack team in Luveve, Bulawayo. Acting on a tip-off, detectives tracked the trio to their hideout, where the suspects opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire before being disarmed and detained.

During the operation, police recovered a 9 mm FN Browning pistol with three live rounds and eight empty cartridges.
Robbery Cases Linked to Suspects

The trio is implicated in at least three armed robbery cases, including: October 1, 2024: A Toyota Fun Cargo (registration AEA 5078) was stolen after the suspects hired the vehicle from Bulawayo CBD to Harrisville. November 13, 2024: A Honda Fit (registration ADU 1198), a cellphone, ZAR 500, and USD 15 were stolen in Reigate Township, Bulawayo. November 20, 2024: A Ford Ranger (registration AFN 6255) was taken during a robbery at Chigumira Business Centre in Bulawayo. The vehicle was later recovered at a railway crossing in Spitzkop, Gwanda.

Hunt for Outstanding Suspect

The ZRP is appealing for public assistance to locate the fourth suspect, Elvis Charakupa (41), whose last known address is 96/7878 Mpopoma, Bulawayo. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631, WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or report to the nearest police station.
Police Vow to Combat Armed Robberies

The ZRP has reaffirmed its commitment to combating armed robberies across the country, with crack teams on high alert. "The law will take its course without fear or favor," read a statement from the police.

Investigations are ongoing as the authorities work to secure convictions and recover stolen items.
