A 23-year-old man from Lower Gweru, Midlands Province, has been arrested for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting his mother with an iron rod in a drunken fit of rage.
The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, when the accused returned home intoxicated and launched a violent attack on his mother, accusing her of disliking his wife. The situation escalated as he reportedly threatened to behead her before striking her repeatedly with an iron rod, targeting her eye, forehead, and various parts of her body.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the victim sustained a deep cut on her forehead and a swollen left eye. The man’s aggression did not stop at physical violence; he allegedly stripped his mother naked as she attempted to escape.
The victim's screams alerted neighbors, who intervened and rescued her from further harm. Authorities arrested the accused, who has since been convicted of domestic violence charges and remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on December 13, 2024, for sentencing.
