The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reiterated the importance of motorists stopping, rendering first aid, and promptly reporting any road traffic accidents to the police. The reminder follows a tragic hit-and-run incident currently under investigation by ZRP Mbare.

The fatal accident occurred on December 15, 2024, at approximately 13:52 hours along New Chitungwiza Road. A Grade 7 learner, aged 13, tragically lost their life after being struck by an unknown motorist driving a Nissan Caravan kombi, with the registration number AGZ 0118.

Shockingly, the driver dumped both the body and the vehicle at Chitungwiza Hospital before fleeing to an unknown destination. The ZRP has launched a manhunt for the suspect and is appealing to members of the public with any relevant information to assist with investigations.

Anyone with details regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the driver is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact ZRP Mbare.

The ZRP further emphasizes that leaving the scene of an accident without rendering assistance is both a criminal offense and a serious moral failing. Motorists are reminded of their legal duty to stop, provide assistance to victims, and immediately report accidents to law enforcement authorities.

"We urge all motorists to exercise responsibility on the road. Hit-and-run incidents not only violate the law but also rob families of their loved ones under painful circumstances," the police said in a statement.

As investigations continue, the ZRP has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and holding the culprit accountable.
