A Chitungwiza man, Brighton Ndihana (45), has appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr. Taurai Manuwere, facing charges of armed robbery in connection with a US$160,000 heist at a Harare property.
Ndihana was remanded in custody over the weekend and advised to apply for bail at the High Court. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 28 for routine remand. The complainant in the case is Chen Hai Tian.
According to the prosecution led by Mr. Tawanda Nyandoro, the robbery occurred on December 6, 2024, around 8:50 PM. Ndihana, along with accomplices identified as Silvanos Sithole, Lloyd Mushunje, Ranganai Mushohwe (currently on remand), and others who remain at large, allegedly scaled the precast wall surrounding the complainant’s property to gain entry.
Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with pistols. The gang overpowered security guard Vhukile Dhlakama and forced their way into the office where the complainant was present. The robbers manhandled those on the premises and coerced the complainant to unlock a safe containing US$120,000 in cash and 500 grammes of gold.
The total value of the stolen items amounts to US$160,000, none of which has been recovered to date.
The incident was reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) at the Five Avenue Station. On January 9, detectives from the CID Homicide Unit in Harare received intelligence implicating Ndihana in the robbery, leading to his arrest.
Investigators allegedly uncovered evidence of communication between Ndihana and one of the other suspects, Ranganai Mushohwe, both before and after the crime.
Police continue to pursue leads on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects as the investigation unfolds.
