Harare and all Mashonaland provinces should brace for heavy rains today, following a warning from the Meteorological Services Department (MSD). The department has predicted mostly cloudy conditions accompanied by scattered thunderstorms across most parts of the country.

The forecast indicates significant rainfall, particularly in the northern regions. Yesterday, the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) brought heavy downpours to northern Mashonaland, with Centenary and Mvurwi recording 30mm of rainfall, while Guruve received 26mm.

"Besides the clouds over these northern areas this morning (yesterday), there were brief cloudy periods in the southern parts of provinces such as Masvingo, Manicaland, and Matabeleland South," said the MSD in a statement.

The department also noted that a cloud band from the west is slowly approaching Zimbabwe, which could lead to further rainfall across most parts of the country today.

The MSD has urged the public to exercise caution, particularly by avoiding crossing flooded rivers, as heavy rains may cause flash flooding in some areas. Additionally, citizens have been encouraged to practice water harvesting where possible to mitigate the effects of the heavy rainfall.

Tomorrow, all Mashonaland provinces, as well as Matabeleland North and South, are expected to experience mostly cloudy, humid, and hot weather with scattered thunderstorms.

However, Bulawayo, Harare, Midlands, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces are forecast to have mostly sunny and hot conditions during the day, with mild overnight temperatures. Brief cloudy periods and occasional showers are also possible in some areas.

The public is advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this rainy period.
