Nkulumane MP mobilising resources for community development
3 hrs ago | Views
Nkulumane Member of Parliament Desire Moyo has announced plans to mobilise resources to address social and economic challenges facing his constituency. He said they are engaging donors, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and corporate partners to support key community projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
Speaking to Southern Eye, Moyo emphasised the importance of income-generating projects to promote sustainability and reduce dependence on external funding. He noted that strengthening financial accountability would help build trust and attract further support for community initiatives.
Moyo highlighted several priority areas, including women empowerment programmes that provide additional support for chicken-rearing and other income-generating activities. He also mentioned plans to expand youth training programmes in climate change advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership to equip young people with essential skills. Infrastructure development remains a key focus, with efforts directed at installing solar-powered boreholes, providing Early Childhood Development (ECD) furniture, and expanding the Nkulumane Food and Nutrition classroom.
To improve community engagement, Moyo said they would utilise digital platforms to disseminate information and interact more effectively with residents. He stressed that the clusters and committees established in 2024 would continue to play a vital role in identifying and prioritising community needs. He underscored the importance of strengthening community participation to foster unity, pride, and empowerment among Nkulumane residents.
Addressing broader challenges, Moyo acknowledged that crime, unemployment, and environmental concerns remain significant issues. He said partnerships with NGOs and environmental experts would help introduce new initiatives such as tree planting, clean-up campaigns, and climate change education in schools. He added that efforts would be made to educate and empower young people to become climate champions and reduce Nkulumane's carbon footprint.
Moyo also revealed plans to implement targeted programmes for women's economic empowerment, including vocational training, microfinance workshops, and mentorship programmes for aspiring entrepreneurs. He pointed out that these efforts would help women gain financial independence and contribute to the local economy.
Reflecting on previous initiatives, the MP noted that the constituency embarked on crafting the Nkulumane Constituency Development Plan (NCDP) in March 2024. He described the NCDP as a foundational document that serves as a blueprint for all developmental activities in Nkulumane. He said the plan was created through a participatory process involving representatives from various clusters to ensure it reflects the diverse needs of the community.
Moyo emphasised that establishing a framework where residents can contribute to decision-making is crucial for sustainable development. He expressed confidence that with collective effort, Nkulumane could become a self-reliant and progressive community that prioritises economic growth, social cohesion, and environmental responsibility.
