Dry taps for Harare

Harare residents in the northwestern parts of the city and the Central Business District (CBD) are enduring water shortages following a major pipe burst at the Warren Control water distribution centre, the city council has announced.

In a statement, the City of Harare revealed that the pipe burst at the Warren Control point has disrupted water supplies to several areas, including the CBD, Warren Park, Dzivarasekwa, Westlea, and Avondale.

"Our engineers are working flat out on the pipe burst with a target of restoring supplies soon,: the council assured in the statement.

The local authority apologized for the disruption, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to residents. However, it did not provide a specific timeline for when the repairs would be completed and water supplies fully restored.

The incident has once again highlighted the city's aging water infrastructure, which has been prone to frequent breakdowns, leaving residents without consistent access to clean water. The situation has been compounded by financial constraints that limit the council's ability to invest in infrastructure upgrades.

As engineers work to resolve the issue, affected residents have been urged to make alternative arrangements for water. The council has faced growing criticism from residents for the recurrent water crises, which have exacerbated the challenges of daily life in Zimbabwe's capital.
