Nkosilomusa Moses Langa, son of former Sports Minister Andrew Langa, has emerged victorious in the Zanu PF primary elections for the Insiza North constituency, positioning him to contest the upcoming by-election triggered by the recent death of Farai Taruvinga, the area's Member of Parliament.
Langa clinched the party ticket in a hotly contested primary, marking his official entry into mainstream politics under the Zanu PF banner. His victory is seen by analysts as a blend of political legacy and grassroots mobilisation, with many constituents viewing him as a continuation of his father's enduring influence in the region.
The Nomination Court is expected to sit on May 15, after which the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will announce the official date for the by-election.
Farai Taruvinga, who died last month, had represented the constituency since 2018 and was a vocal figure in the National Assembly on developmental issues affecting Matabeleland South.
Langa, addressing party supporters after the announcement, pledged to honour Taruvinga's legacy while focusing on rural development, youth empowerment, and infrastructure rehabilitation in the constituency.
"This is not just a personal victory — it is a call to service. I am committed to continuing the work of the late Honourable Taruvinga and ensuring Insiza North becomes a model of rural transformation," Langa said.
Zanu PF insiders say Langa's campaign benefited from strong backing among local party structures, as well as from veterans who fondly remember his father's tenure as a senior government official.
Opposition parties are yet to declare their candidates for the by-election, but the contest is expected to draw attention given the constituency's strategic location and history of political engagement.
