Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Ezra Chadzamira, has called on university students to embrace innovation and transform research into viable business ventures that can drive Zimbabwe's economic development.
Speaking during a special lecture at the Reformed Church University (RCU) in Masvingo on Friday, Chadzamira said the world was undergoing rapid change in various spheres - from economics and technology to politics and society - and urged students to adapt accordingly.
"The world we live in is rapidly evolving economically, technologically, socially and politically," said Chadzamira. "The challenges we face - from climate change to economic inequality - are complex and interconnected. However, with these challenges come enormous opportunities for innovation, creativity and progress."
He encouraged students to play an active role in shaping the country's future by applying their academic knowledge to real-world problems.
"As university students, you should embrace the spirit of innovation and collaboration," he said. "A knowledge-based society thrives on innovation, critical thinking and the relentless pursuit of learning."
Chadzamira also praised Great Zimbabwe University for establishing an innovation hub, which he said is a key step toward building an economy rooted in creativity and problem-solving.
"Your dedication to studies, your engagement with new ideas and your ability to adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of information are the very foundation upon which this pillar of our national inspiration will be built," he added.
He further highlighted entrepreneurial efforts at Masvingo Polytechnic College, where students have formed business consortia and are producing goods such as purified mineral water for commercial sale.
Chadzamira's remarks come amid ongoing national efforts to harness the potential of youth and academic institutions to support the country's development agenda under Vision 2030.
