Masvingo South Member of Parliament Tanatsiwa Mukomberi was involved in a tense incident at a Harare hotel on May 20, where the windscreen of his vehicle was damaged after he was allegedly caught with a married woman, law enforcement sources have revealed.
The MP was unharmed during the episode, which took place in the hotel's parking lot.
According to police sources, Mukomberi had spent some time in his hotel room with the unnamed woman before they briefly left together in her white Nissan X-Trail, returning just before 9 PM.
"When they pulled up at the hotel, the husband, Wilson Mutambwani, was lying in wait in a Toyota Aqua. He must have gotten information that she was there," a police source said.
Mutambwani, 38, from Vancouver Road in Braeside, reportedly assaulted the MP before pulling a pistol and firing at the windscreen of Mukomberi's parked Ford Ranger, causing visible damage. Police investigations later confirmed the weapon was a pellet gun.
"It was absolute carnage," the source added. "The suspect then grabbed the woman's handbag, which contained her car keys and phone, before jumping into his car. The woman also got into the Toyota Aqua and they drove off."
According to reports obtained by ZimLive, the couple returned to the hotel on May 21 around 3 PM in a taxi and later drove away in the woman's Nissan X-Trail, which had remained in the parking lot.
The woman informed police that she is in the process of divorcing Mutambwani, but he has been refusing to accept the separation.
Mutambwani, who works at a panel beating shop in Msasa, has since been charged with malicious damage to property and assault. Police also seized the air pistol used during the incident.
MP Tanatsiwa Mukomberi declined to comment on the matter.
