Harare businessman Itai Samanyai is currently embroiled in a heated divorce battle with his estranged wife, Grace Precious Mutongerwa-Samanyai, amid serious allegations of forged signatures linked to the sale of a house in Madokero.
Samanyai, known for his role as chairman of Tadakara Resources and Chief Financial Officer of Tadakara Construction Company (Pvt) Ltd, is also connected to Invictus Fitness Centre, a gym operator in Harare. Grace, who describes herself as an executive director at Invictus Fitness Centre, has carved out a notable professional profile, boasting a degree in Accounting from the University of Zimbabwe and an MBA in Project Management from the London School of Business and Finance.
The couple, who have four children, have been living separately for some time. Their marriage has deteriorated sharply, with Itai claiming Grace forced him out of their matrimonial home. He alleges that Grace's objective is to leave him financially ruined by demanding excessive upkeep payments.
Grace has taken Itai to the Harare Civil Court, seeking US$3,000 monthly for the maintenance of their four children. However, Itai has vehemently opposed the amount, calling it "ridiculous" and insisting he cannot afford such payments.
"I can't afford such an amount; it's ridiculous and not a healthy request," Itai said through his lawyer. "She kicked me out of the house and I am trying to get back on my feet. She seems to be on a mission to leave me broke."
He further revealed that Grace initially filed for divorce but later withdrew the application, insisting they are still legally married despite their separation.
The dispute has been complicated by serious legal allegations, with Itai accusing Grace of forging signatures to facilitate the sale of their Madokero property. The forgery case is currently before the courts.
"We have an ongoing fraud case in which she admitted to fraudulently forging signatures in order to sell our Madokero house," Itai said.
The matter has been adjourned to June 27, following a court order requiring Grace to provide evidence to substantiate her claim for the US$3,000 monthly maintenance.
While both Itai and Grace maintain active and successful professional lives, their personal dispute continues to generate significant public and legal attention as the case unfolds.
