The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will on Thursday release the names of motorists caught on camera violating traffic laws in Bulawayo's Central Business District (CBD), in a move aimed at tightening traffic enforcement and promoting road safety.

This will mark the second batch of offenders to be publicly named under the ZRP's ongoing Electronic Traffic Management System initiative, following the recent publication of 290 traffic offenders in Harare last week.

"We have the list [of offenders] and we will be making it public tomorrow (Thursday)," confirmed ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The Electronic Traffic Management System, introduced with the installation of surveillance cameras at key intersections and streets in the city centre last August, captures footage of various traffic infractions - including failure to obey traffic signals, illegal turns, and reckless driving.

The system is part of a broader government effort to modernize traffic enforcement and reduce road carnage in urban centres.

In Harare, police gave the identified motorists a seven-day grace period to report to their nearest police stations or face further legal action. The same approach is expected to be taken in Bulawayo.

"Cameras are helping us to efficiently identify and track offenders, especially those who ignore red lights or commit other dangerous acts," said Commissioner Nyathi.

Authorities have urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and reminded the public that the camera-based system is continuously operational.

The upcoming release of the Bulawayo offenders' list is expected to send a strong message to errant drivers and further entrench a culture of accountability on the roads.
