The home of former Chitungwiza deputy mayor and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Rangarirai Mutingwende was bombed late Thursday night, in what appears to be a politically motivated attack.

According to the family, the incident followed two days of unexplained surveillance, with two white Toyota Fortuners - both without number plates - reportedly parked outside the property. Mutingwende had raised the alarm about the suspicious vehicles prior to the attack.

In a disturbing turn of events earlier the same day, Mutingwende's daughter, Jerita Mutingwende - a former councillor who was recalled from office - narrowly escaped abduction. The family says the attempt was foiled by "the bravery of local citizens who intervened to rescue her."

No injuries were reported from the bombing, but the property suffered significant damage. Residents say the explosion rocked the neighbourhood late at night, shattering windows and sparking panic.

"This was a clear warning," said a family member who spoke on condition of anonymity. "We have reason to believe this is politically motivated, considering the timing and previous threats."

The incident has sent shockwaves through the opposition community and raised alarm over the safety of opposition figures ahead of potential by-elections. There has been no official comment from the police, and it remains unclear whether any investigation has been launched into the bombing or the attempted abduction.

The CCC is yet to issue a formal statement but insiders say they are treating the matter as a targeted act of political violence.

This incident adds to growing concerns about the security of opposition leaders, activists, and recalled officials across Zimbabwe, as tensions continue to rise within the country's political landscape.
