The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation into a viral social media post advertising a suspected "vuzu" or sex party allegedly scheduled to take place at a private venue in Mutare. The post, which has sparked widespread concern, invites men to pay US$20 for entry, raising alarms over potential illegal activities, including the exploitation of minors, drug use, and public indecency.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the ZRP said it was treating the matter with urgency and has activated measures to track down the individuals behind the planned event.

"The ZRP is investigating circumstances in which a viral social media post is inviting the public to participate in a ‘vuzu' or sex party in Mutare at a private location, with men allegedly paying USD 20 to enter the premises. The ZRP warns the organisers that the law will take its course without fear or favour," read the statement.

Vuzu parties, which have become increasingly common in urban centres across Zimbabwe, are typically associated with underage drinking, illicit drug use, and unprotected sexual activity, often taking place in unsupervised environments. Authorities fear these gatherings not only pose serious public health risks but also violate child protection and moral standards.

Community leaders and residents have welcomed the police's swift response, urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant and engage in open dialogue with their children about the dangers of such events.

The police have also appealed to the public for assistance with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the organisers. Investigations are ongoing.
