Zimbabwe's gold boom spurs laboratory expansion
3 hrs ago | Views

Zimbabwe has witnessed a surge in gold mining exploration and production in recent months, driven by record-high gold prices that have made the metal increasingly attractive to investors and miners. Gold hit a peak of US$3,500 an ounce in April, prompting heightened demand for related services, including laboratory analysis.
The spike in exploration activity has, however, strained some industry laboratories, with international media reporting delays as facilities struggled to keep up with an influx of samples from miners and prospectors.
Antech Laboratories, Zimbabwe's leading certified laboratory, has moved to reassure the mining sector that it is fully equipped to handle the surge in demand. Speaking to the press, Antech manager Edson Luwobo said the laboratory's proactive expansion had positioned it to provide efficient, reliable services despite the increased workload.
"We anticipated the rise in activity ahead of the record gold price and expanded our operations accordingly," Mr Luwobo said. "The opening of our Bulawayo branch has eased pressure on the industry while ensuring certified and timely data for our clients."
He added that Antech's growing efficiency and branch network have attracted numerous new clients, with further expansion planned in Filabusi, Matabeleland South, and areas south of the Midlands to serve both artisanal and large-scale miners.
Mr Luwobo emphasised Antech's commitment to supporting all players in the mining sector, aligning with Government's vision of inclusive development. "We shall be partnering with both small and big players to ensure seamless and convenient services for all. We will also engage clients during the October Mine Entra mining indaba in Bulawayo as we continue to lead in mining and exploration laboratory services," he said.
