The tourism community in Victoria Falls has been shaken following the death of a veteran canoe guide in a crocodile attack on the Zambezi River on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred near Kadahar Island, a popular area for river safaris. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Marlven Nyoni from Mkosana, Victoria Falls, worked as an assistant guide for the Victoria Falls Canoe Company. His body has been recovered from the river.
ZIMPARKS Public Relations Manager Tinashe Farawo confirmed the tragic event, stating that authorities responded to the attack. "We can confirm the report of a canoe guide attacked and killed by a crocodile. Our officers attended the incident whereby an assistant to a canoe guide was attacked and killed during a canoe trip along the Zambezi River at Kadahar Island," Farawo said.
He added that the exact circumstances of the attack remain unclear and that a detailed update will follow once investigations are completed.
